LOWER ZAMBEZI RIVER - ZAMBIA
LOCATION:
On
the Lower part of the Zambezi River in Zambia, opposite Mana Pools
about 65kms down river from Chirundu Border.
The
Lower Zambezi National Park is 18kms to the left of Mvuu Lodge
and there is a private Game Farm to the immediate right. The beautiful
Chirundu Escarpment creates a back drop to the Lodge and in front
is the Mighty Zambezi River, and Mvuu Lodge is located in the
Chiawa Game Management Area. This bit of geography is just to
show how we are surrounded by natural borders and therefore the
game is plentiful, almost trapped by these natural surroundings,
and are quite visible in and around the camp.
Besides
the fact that our entire camp is on the edge of the River we are
also very fortunate in that we have a lot of lovely big trees
which almost form a canopy over the chalets - very helpful against
the heat!
ACCOMMODATION:
Fully inclusive luxury chalets, with thatched roofs and on raised
wooden decks, with en suite facilities.
Self catering chalets with en suite facilities, fully equipped
(only bring food)
Exclusive camp sites with private hot shower, flush toilet and
basin in reed enclosures.
ACTIVITIES:
Game viewing by boat or vehicle
Tiger fishing (and other species)
Environmental awareness walks
Canoe safaris
Bird watching
Photography
Tree identification
Sundowner cruises
There
is also a restaurant, bar, swimming pool and curio shop. In general
we have tried to keep Mvuu Lodge very natural and rustic but with
the added comforts of good quality beds, hot showers, good food
etc.
HOW
TO GET THERE:
Guests
can fly to Lusaka from where we can do a road/boat transfer (approx.
4.5 hours) or air charter from Lusaka to Mvuu Lodge (half an hour);
or a road/boat transfer from Kariba. Charter flights are also
available from Livingstone to Mvuu Lodge.
Self
drives are also possible but no sedan cars, only vehicles with
high ground clearance. There is a ferry crossing at the Kafue
River and the 65kms from Chirundu to Mvuu takes about 4.5 hours.
4 X 4 vehicles are necessary during the rainy season.
We
also run two or three day canoe safaris from the ferry crossing
to Mvuu.
As
Mvuu Lodge is a small (only 20 beds), privately owned lodge, the
service is excellent and the Management and staff can personally
make the guests have a memorable stay.
WHAT TO BRING:
Clothing should be casual and lightweight. Bright colours should
be avoided and neutral colours (khaki, green, brown) preferred.
A jersey for those cold evenings, sleeping attire or tracksuit.
Comfortable pair of walking shoes.
Personal toiletries and medication. An insect repellent is recommended.
Wide brimmed hat, sunglasses and sunscreen lotion.
A good flashlight, binoculars, camera and video recorder. Please
ensure you have enough film and batteries for the duration of
your safari.Lower Zambezi River Zambia.
